Fisher Continues Winning Streak with Win over Ithaca

The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team cruised past Ithaca 94-63 on Saturday afternoon at Manning & Napier Varsity Gymnasium. With the win, the Cardinals have now won seven straight games and improved to 10-2 overall and stays perfect at 6-0 in the Empire 8 Conference.

After trading baskets and leads over the first seven minutes of the game, the Cardinals jumped out to a 26-14 lead. The lead came on a 12-2 run that spanned three minutes. Jordan Gettings led Fisher with 10 points in the first half. The Cardinals had eight different players score in the opening period, making way for a 22-point lead (49-27) at the half.

In the first stanza, Fisher shot 51.2%, while holding the Bombers to shooting just 32.4%. The Cardinals also held Ithaca to just 14.3% (2-for-14) shooting from beyond the arc.

Fisher came out for the second half continuing to fire on all cylinders, outscoring Ithaca 18-5 in the first six minutes to take a 67-32 lead. The Cardinals would continue to lead by 30 or more points for most of the second half.

Fisher had six players score in double digits, while shooting 49.4% (38-for-77) for the game and 50% (5-for-10) from the three-point line.

Gettings finished with 17 points to lead Fisher while Michael Wopperer and Jordan Koch each had 12. The other three Cardinals with double digits were Matt Newman, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, Will Cornett (10), and freshman Jason Norsen (10).

Fisher will play on Wednesday in the Wendy's College Classic. The site/opponent will be determined when the seeds are announced Sunday night.
