Ducks Deliver Fisher's First E8 Loss

Visiting Stevens Institute of Technology picked up a 66-58 win over host St. John Fisher College in an Empire 8 Conference men's basketball matchup on Friday night.

With the win, Stevens improves to 14-4 overall and 7-3 in the Empire 8, while the Cardinals fall to 16-4, 10-1.

Stevens opened the first half on a 10-0 run. The Cardinals answered with an 8-0 run to bring it to a two-point game, but didn't gain its first lead of the half until 10:52 left, off a layup from Jason Norsen

Fisher open the second half with a 11-0 run over the opening 4:44 to take a five-point lead at 35-30, but the Ducks didn't go away, scoring the next six points and never trailed again.

Stevens led 39-38 with just over 11 minutes to go and took command of the game, outscoring Fisher 14-3 over the next four minutes and kept at least a double-digit lead for most of the remainder of the game.

Fisher cut the lead down to six points in the final minute, but couldn't score even after the Ducks missed four straight free throws.

Stevens' Mike Cutri led all scorers and finished with 19 points, while shooting 4-for-4 from 3-point range.
For Fisher, Brandon Witte finished with 12 points. Matt Newman and Michael Wopperer each scored 10.
