Volleyball Wraps Up Weekend at Gettysburg

Sophomore Becca Smith had a team-high 14 kills and 16 digs in the win over Messiah.
The St. John Fisher College volleyball team went 3-1 overall at the Gettysburg Invitational this weekend.  Fisher defeated Gallaudet University, Northland College and Messiah College en route to its three wins.  Sophomore attacker Becca Smith was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Cardinals opened their season and the tournament on Friday with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-15) victory over Gallaudet.  They then fell to Carnegie Mellon in three (25-18, 25-16, 25-16).

Fisher saw two victories on Saturday.  The team began with a three-game win over Northland College (28-26, 27-25, 25-15), and wrapped up the tournament by defeating Messiah in four (25-22, 27-17, 17-25, 25-16).

Smith, Amy Street, Sydney Kandefer, and Elaina Braun highlighted the Cardinals' roster. 

Smith led the team with 54 digs over the weekend, and tied for the team lead with 32 kills.  Her best match of the weekend came in Fisher's win over Messiah, tallying a team-high 16 digs and 14 kills in the victory.

Street finished with a team-high 20 service aces and added 19 digs and nine assists.  Kandefer led the Cardinals with 12 blocks over the four-match span, while posting a team-high .305 hitting percentage on 32 kills.

Braun led the team with 94 assists.  She also chipped in with 17 digs and 14 kills. 

Senior Jenna Waldron finished the weekend with 50 digs, while Brittany Rowan totaled 23 kills and 13 digs.

Fisher (3-1) is back in action next weekend, when it travels to Ithaca to play in the Ithaca College Invitational.
