Fourth-seeded St. John Fisher College eliminated top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology from the Empire 8 Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship, as the Cardinals came through with a
16-12 win over the host Ducks on Saturday in Hoboken, NJ.
With the victory, Fisher improves to 9-6 overall and will face No. 2 Rochester Institute of Technology (13-4) at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Stevens in the Empire 8 finals. The winner of Sunday's game will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
Stevens (15-2), ranked 10th in the latest coach's poll, led 2-0 after the first two minutes and led 5-2 with just over 13 minutes left in the first half. The Cardinals, however, went on a 6-1 run to the end the half and led 8-6 at intermission.
Stevens scored two of the first three goals in the second half and trailed by just one goal at 9-8 with 20 minutes left, but Fisher scored the next four goals to take command.
Mary Stimson set the Fisher single-game record for assists in the victory, tallying seven, while also scoring a goal.
Meg Merriam and Courtney Clare each scored four goals, while Lauren Glavin added six points on two goals and four assists.
Jackie Maynard scored three goals, while Trish Scudder (two assists) and Ashley Fenyn (one goal, one assist) each finished with two points.
Vicki Sahm stopped 14 shots in goal to earn the win.
