The St. John Fisher College softball team stifled the Pittsburgh-Bradford offense in a Saturday doubleheader, allowing just one run in two games. Fisher shut-out the Panthers 7-0 in the opening game and gave up just one run in the last inning of the mercy rule shortened night cap for a 9-1 victory. The Cardinals improved to 25-9 on the year with the two non-conference wins.
Game One: Fisher 7, Pitt-Bradford 0
Powered by senior Amanda Shevchuk's pitching performance, the Cardinals moved easily past the Panthers in the first game. Shevchuk pitched a seven-inning complete game, only giving up two hits while striking out 10 batters. With the win she improved to 12-5 overall and lowered her ERA to 2.63 for the year. Sophomore Lauren O'Brien went 3-for-4 in the contest with a run scored, while Kristi Bradley and Megan Rogers both added two hits. Rogers scored two runs and hit in a RBI, while freshmen Carissa Carlson had two RBI and a run scored.
Game Two: Fisher 9, Pitt-Bradford 1
The spotlight belonged to a catcher in the second game. Junior Meghan Graves came up to the plate in the bottom of the third inning with the bases loaded. With one swing of the bat and a hard line drive shot over the leftfield fence, Graves put four runs on the board and put the game out of reach with her grand slam. Graves finished the day 2-for-2 with five RBI and two runs scored. Bradley was also 2-for-2 with two runs scored. On the mound, freshman Chrissy Capalbo went the distance in the mercy rule shortened five inning game. Capalbo only gave up four hits and one run while improving her record to 4-0.
Fisher returns to action tomorrow when they travel to St. Lawrence University to take on the Saints at 1 p.m.
