Men's Lax Downed By No. 3 Ithaca, 12-6

Jon Cortina made a season-high 16 saves in the loss to the Bombers.
Jon Cortina registered a season-high 16 saves, but it wasn't enough, as the No. 23 St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team had its season-opening nine-game win streak snapped in a 12-6 loss to No. 3 Ithaca in an Empire 8 Conference game.

After five minutes of scoreless action, the Bombers got on the scoreboard at the 10:44 mark of the opening period. Eight minutes later, the Bombers' lead doubled, before Mike Cummins pulled the Cardinals to within one on a feed from Jeff Price. The Bombers answered with six of the game's next seven goals, interrupted only by an unassisted goal from Kyle Denhoff, to take an 8-2 lead 4:16 into the third quarter.

Ryan Schmidt had a hand in back-to-back goals for the Cardinals with an assist to Denhoff and a solo goal with 6:35 to play in the third, but the Bombers surged back again – this time with a trio of unanswered scores to go up by seven, 11-4.

Denhoff (2g) and Price (1g, 1a) were the only Cardinals to finish with multiple points, while Scott More and Jon Cortina each scooped up three ground balls.

Fisher (9-1 overall, 2-1 Empire 8) will take on No. 21 Stevens Institute of Technology at 3 p.m. on Saturday in another Empire 8 Conference meeting.
