The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team
defeated Elmira College 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Fisher Courts. This was the first Empire 8 Conference match for the Cardinals this season, improving them to 2-5 overall, 1-0 in the E8.
Fisher got wins at second, third, fourth, fifth, and six singles as well as second and third doubles. In the second single match,
Tim Adler won 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 10-8 to give a boost for the Cardinals.
Karl Schiefer and
Jake VanBuren each defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0 while Mike O'Connor and
John Whelehan each beat their foes 6-1, 6-2.
In the second doubles match, O'Connor and Schiefer teamed up to defeat Elmira 8-2. For third doubles, VanBuren and senior
Jack Forrest combined to blank the Soaring Eagles team, 8-0.
The Cardinals will return to action on Thursday when they host Empire 8 and East-Ave rival Nazareth at 3:30 p.m.
