The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team picked up a 60-46 win over Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday in the Empire 8 Conference season opener for both teams.
With the win, Fisher improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8, while R.I.T. falls to 2-3, 0-1. Fisher was picked to finish first in the Empire 8 Preseason Poll, while the Tigers were picked to finish second.
Fisher went on a 12-1 run over the final 6:58 of the first half and led 26-16 at intermission. The Tigers shot just 18.5% from the floor in the first half (5-for-27).
The Tigers pulled to within three points at 33-30 with 14:13 left on Anthony Terry's 3-pointer, but the Cardinals went on a 13-3 run over the next 7:27 to take command and kept a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Michael Wopperer led the Cardinals with 14 points and added seven rebounds. Jordan Koch added 12 points, while Jordan Gettings and Connor Henderson each added nine points. Matt Newman registered eight points, eight boards and four assists.
Terry led the Tigers with 17 points.
Fisher will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday at DeSales University. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 24 in the d3hoops.com poll.
