Men's Basketball Pushes Win Streak To Seven

The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team came through with its seventh straight win, as the Cardinals posted a 60-52 win over visiting Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at Fisher's Bobby Wanzer Court at Manning & Napier Varsity Gym.
 
With the win, Fisher improves to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Stevens falls 7-4, 0-2.
 
Fisher led 7-5 after the opening two minutes, but trailed 18-12 with 8:34 left in the first half.  The Cardinals, however, responded with an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take the lead for good and led 30-23 at intermission.
 
Fisher never relinquished its advantage, keeping between a 5- and an 11-point lead for the remainder of the contest.
 
Fisher shot 44.2% from the floor, while Stevens was 16-for-60 (26.7%) from the field.  Both teams shot less than 55% from the foul line.
 
Junior Michael Wopperer recorded his first career-double and finished with 11 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.   He was the only player to finish in double-figures. 

For Stevens, Anthony Passalacqua finished with 19 points, while Virgil Gray added 12 points.  Jordan Gettings and Anthony Hall each scored nine points, while Matt Newman totaled eight rebounds, seven points and six assists.
 
Fisher will return to action at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Rochester Institute of Technology in the first of a seven-game road trip.
