Behind a 20-2 run to close out the first half, the St. John Fisher College men's basketball team posted an impressive 77-46 win over Alfred University on Friday night. Sophomore
Ozell Franklin had the hot hand for Fisher, totaling 21 points (one off his career-high) on 7-of-11 shooting, including 6-of-8 from outside the arc.
After battling to an 8-8 tie five minutes into the contest, Fisher got its offense going and took control with a 17-7 stretch that saw five different players score for the Cardinals.
Fisher continued to pour it on and finished the opening stanza on an emphatic 20-2 run highlighted by four three 3-pointers from guard
Ozell Franklin. Franklin was 4-for-4 from distance in the first half, and paced his team to a 56.3% (18-of-32) shooting performance to open the game.
Fisher, who ranks among the national leaders in field goal percentage defense, out-rebounded the Saxons 29-13 in the half, and held Alfred to just 6-of-28 (21.4%) from the field in the first half.
Alfred began the second period on a 9-0 run, but the Cardinals hunkered down on the defensive end and came up with two consecutive steals and transition baskets to regain momentum.
Fisher (13-2, 5-1 Empire 8) will take on Nazareth College at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
