Women's Lacrosse Wins 19-12 Over Elmira

Lauren Glavin (left) and Laurie Quackenbush combined for eight goals and two assists on Sunday.
The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team used an 11-goal second half to surge past the visiting Elmira College Soaring Eagles on Sunday at Fisher’s Growney Stadium.

Fisher trailed 5-4 midway through the first half, but took the lead for good at the 12:19 mark when Lauren Glavin (Corcoran/Syracuse) found the back of the net to give the Cardinals a 6-5 advantage.

The goal sparked a 6-0 run to bridge the intermission, which gave Fisher a 12-6 lead just nine minutes into the second half.  The Soaring Eagles cut the lead down to four with back-to-back goals just 15 seconds apart, but senior All-American Laurie Quackenbush (Penn Yan Academy/Penn Yan) took over from there, putting the game out of reach with three of her four goals coming in the final half of the second stanza.

Quackenbush and Glavin each finished with a game-best five points on four goals and one assist, while Ashley Fenyn (Newark/Newark) (three goals), and Danielle Whyte (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) (one goal, two assists) netted three points each for Fisher.  Emily Burkhardt (Livonia/Livonia), joined Mary Stimson (Cicero-North Syracuse/Cicero) with two points, while Dana DiIorio (Corning West/Painted Post), Allison Christie (East Syracuse-Minoa/Syracuse), Jackie Maynard (Marcus Whitman/Stanley), and Trish Scudder (Corning East/Beaver Dams) added one goal each in the win.

Fisher improves to 7-3 overall, 4-1 in the Empire 8, and will return to action at 5 p.m. on Tuesday take on host Hamilton College.
