The St. John Fisher College baseball team swept its doubleheader over host Utica College on Saturday. Fisher
won the first game 8-2, and recorded an
8-3 win in the finale. With the two wins, Fisher improves to 19-8-1 overall, and will return to action tomorrow with another doubleheader against the Pioneers.
Game One – Fisher 8, Utica 2
Fisher used a six-run second inning to take command and never looked back.
Greg McKeown (Avon/Avon) gave up five hits and struck out three over six innings of action to improve to 4-1 on the year. Dave Convertini (Williamsville East/Williamsville) led Fisher with two hits and three RBI.
Ross Langevin (Liverpool/Liverpool) and
Chad King (C.W. Baker/Plainville) each drove in two hits.
Kevin Wing (Webster Schroeder/Webster), Jason Nevada (Greece Arcadia/Rochester) and
Dave Roth (Churchville-Chili/Rochester) each singled and scored a run.
Marc Montesano (New Hartford/New Hartford) scored two runs and stole two bases.
Game Two – Fisher 8, Utica 3
The Cardinals scored all eight of their runs in a three-inning span, including five in the fourth inning to complete the sweep of the Pioneers.
King went 3-for-4 and knocked in a run from the plate, and earned the win from mound after throwing five innings and allowing no earned runs.
Nevada (two RBI) and
Kevin Wing (Webster Schroeder/Webster) (one RBI) each picked up two hits in the win.
