Men's Lax Storms Past Keuka

Fisher's Dave Malone scored three goals in Wednesday's win over Keuka.
The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Keuka College 6-3 today at Fisher’s Growney Stadium.  With the win, Fisher raises its record to 10-3 overall on the year, tying the College-record for wins in a season set last spring when the Cardinals finished with a 10-7 record and were the runner-ups in the ECAC Upstate Championship.  The Fisher men’s lacrosse program is in just its seventh of existence.

Fisher, who trailed 2-0 after the first quarter, tied the game up at 2-2 by halftime and scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter.  The Cardinals, who led 6-2 midway through the fourth quarter, held Keuka scoreless until 6:30 left in the contest.

Fisher sophomore Dave Malone (Penfield/Penfield) tallied three goals for the second straight game and added one assist.  Classmate Jeff Price (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) finished with two goals and one assists, while senior Mike Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton) scored a goal.

Fisher goalie Jon Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton) made 10 saves in the win.

Dave Wood (Vestal/Vestal) went 10-for-13 on face-offs and finished with six ground balls.  Bill Empey (McQuaid Jesuit/Rochester) led Fisher with seven ground balls.

Fisher will return to action on at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will host Utica College.  If the Cardinals win, they will earn one of four spots in the Empire 8 Conference Championship.
