The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team rallied back from an eight-goal deficit on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough, as the Cardinals
fell to visiting SUNY Brockport 11-9 at Fisher’s Growney Stadium.
With the win, Brockport improves to 1-0, while the Cardinals fall to 1-1 on the season.
The Golden Eagles scored the first eight goals of the game, taking a commanding lead with 5:40 to play in the opening half. Fisher rallied to score five unanswered goals to bridge the half, and eight of the game’s next nine goals, cutting Brockport’s lead to just one (9-8) midway through the second half.
Brockport’s Lexie Goodhart (one goal, four assists) registered her fifth point when she went to goal alone at 16:57, pushing the Golden Eagles’ lead to two goals, and putting the game just out of reach.
Senior All-American
Laurie Quackenbush (Penn Yan/Penn Yan), who became Fisher’s career leader in ground balls (207), needs just two more goals and an assist to take hold of first place on the all-time lists for goals, assists, and total points.
Quackenbush finished the game with two goals.
Kath Villa (three goals), Julia Decker (two goals), Kim Morris (two goals), and Lindsey Cayea (one goal, one assist) all registered multiple points for Brockport in the win.
Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. next Friday to host the Lycoming Warriors.
