Baseball Scores Two in the Ninth To Knock Off John Carroll

St. John Fisher College scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth innings with two outs and rallied to defeat previously-unbeaten John Carroll University 9-8 on Tuesday morning.

Fisher (3-1), who trailed 6-0 after the second inning, chipped away at the lead throughout the contest and took its first lead in its final at-bat.

With one out in the ninth inning, Marc Montesano was hit by a pitch and stole second.  After Chad King groundout to short, Jon Gibbs hit a sharp grounder just past the third baseman to score the game-tying running, and advanced to second on the throw home.  On the ensuing at-bat, pincher runner Ross Langevin scored the game-winning run as Dave Convertini hit a fly ball to shallow left, which fell for a single.

John Quartironi went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI, while Dave Roth finished with two hits, including a solo home run.

Justin Lutes pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win in relief.  Brandon Lewis, who entered the game after starter Kyle Woytek gave up six runs in the second, allowed just one earned run over six innings.
