Volleyball Raises Funds For Komen For The Cure Foundation

The Fisher volleyball team helped raise over $2,200 on Saturday to help fight breast cancer.

The St. John Fisher College volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday in its two matches, but more importantly, the Cardinals helped raise over $2,200 for the Komen For The Cure Foundation of Central New York.

With October being breast cancer awareness month, Fisher, wore pink jerseys and finished the day with 235 digs as part of the Cardinals' "Dig For the Cure" project, where fans donate money based on how many digs the team finished with for the two matches. 

In Saturday's 3-1 loss to St. Lawrence, Fisher finished with 129 digs, including a career-high 33 from freshman Becca Smith.   Alyssa Ziobrowski tallied 21 kills and a .363 hitting percentage.   Jenna Waldron totaled 26 digs, while Elaina Braun finished with 39 assists and 20 digs.

In its second match of the day, Fisher came through with a convincing 3-1 win over Pitt-Bradford.  Waldron led Fisher with 25 digs, while Ziobrowski added 21 digs and 14 kills.  Sydney Kandefer added 19 digs and 13 kills.

Fisher (14-10) will return to action next Saturday.
