The St. John Fisher College volleyball team defeated visiting University of Rochester 3-1 on Wednesday night at Manning & Napier Varsity Gymnasium.
The Cardinals won the first game convincingly (25-15), but fell behind early in the second, as the Yellowjackets won five of the first seven points. Fisher answered and eventually pulled even, tying the score at 13 and 20 points, but couldn't hold on and dropped the second game 25-22.
Fisher got back on track to open the third game by jumping out to a 3-1 early lead. Rochester swarmed back with a series of rallies, and eventually took a 16-13 lead, before the Cardinals knotted the score at 18 all. The teams swapped points in an exciting back-and-forth exchange before Rochester evened the score at 24-24. Fisher put the game away with a 7-5 run to earn the win in the third game (31-29), and shut the door with a 25-20 win in the fourth game.
Rochester's Jes Rasmussen finished with a match-high 28 digs, while teammate Tayler Schweigel finished with 27. Kate Lewis led the Yellowjackets with 42 assists, while Ally Blair recorded 14 kills.
Fisher (13-9) will return to action on Saturday to host a tri-match against visiting Pitt-Bradford and St. Lawrence University.
