Volleyball Earns Third Seed For E8 Championship

The St. John Fisher College volleyball team won three of its four matches this weekend at Ithaca College in the second half of the Empire 8 Conference Crossover Tournament. 

Saturday, the Cardinals won both their matches, defeating Elmira College 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-12) and Hartwick College 3-0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-20). Fisher went 1-1 in matches on Sunday, defeating Alfred University 3-0 (25-17, 25-7. 25-17) while falling to Nazareth College 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 13-25, 17-25). 

The three wins improved the Cardinals' record to 19-11 overall, 6-2 in the Empire 8 Conference and earned the No. 3 seed in the Empire 8 Conference Championship. The four-team tournament will be held at Stevens Institute of Technology on November 8th, with the winner advancing to the Division III Championship.

Sophomore #Sydney Kandefer# led Fisher in the four matches with 41 kills and 14 total blocks, including a 15-kill match in the win against Alfred University. Kandefer also finished the weekend with 49 digs and seven service aces.

Senior #Alyssa Ziobrowski# also helped the Cardinals' with 28 kills on the weekend, while adding 35 digs and six total blocks.

Setter #Elaina Braun# led the team in both assists (94) and service aces (nine), while totaling 23 digs in the matches. Freshmen standout #Becca Smith# led Fisher with 57 digs on the weekend, while tallying 18 kills and five total blocks.

Defensively, junior libero #Jenna Waldron# ranked second on the team in digs with 54. Senior #Morgen Kandefer# ranked second on the weekend in total blocks with 11. She also helped on the offensive side of the ball adding 16 kills. 

The Cardinals will close out the regular season this week with a match against D'Youville on Thursday and over the weekend at the Elmira Tournament.
