The St. John Fisher College women’s basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, advancing to the semifinals of the JP Morgan Chase Annual Scholarship Tournament for the 14th time in the tournament’s 15-year history with a 72-53 win over visiting Keuka.
With the win, No. 3 Fisher will play No. 7 Nazareth College at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the University of Rochester Palestra in a semifinal matchup, while No. 6 Keuka will face No. 2 SUNY Brockport at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Palestra in a consolation game.
The Cardinals opened the contest with a 14-2 run over the opening 6:29, and enjoyed strong play from senior captain
Allison Boehm (Sacred Heart/Cheektowaga), who recorded 12 points in the game-opening run, and led all scorers with 19 first-half points.
Boehm finished with a season-high 25 points and added 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Fisher (7-3) led 33-21 at intermission and kept a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Kristen Taliento (Rush-Henrietta) scored a career-high 12 points, while fellow sophomore
Mary Kate Comfort (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) added 10 points and six boards.
For Keuka (3-3), freshman Nicki Zahn scored a career-high 15 points, while Abby Brewer added 12 points.
