Nationally-ranked Hobart College
defeated St. John Fisher College 3-2 this afternoon, in a non-conference men's soccer match on Cozzens Field. The Statesmen improve to 6-1-1 overall, while the Cardinals drop to 6-3-0 on the season. Junior Dan Riso (Red Hook/Red Hook, N.Y.) started things off for Hobart in the 15th minute. He headed the ball toward the goal, and it found its way past Cardinal goalkeeper
Adam Durst (Gates Chili/Rochester, N.Y.) after deflecting off a Fisher defender. Just over five minutes later, sophomore Sam Wisner (Wayland/Wayland, Mass.) headed in Hobart’s second goal of the day, following a corner kick by classmate Tom Moulton (Providence Country Day/Coventry, R.I.). The Statesmen held a 2-0 lead at the half. In the 51st minute, the Cardinals caught a break, as Hobart was charged with an own goal after a scramble in front of the net. A few short minutes later, Hobart answered with another score, when Wisner found senior Brad Weinberg (Marcellus/Marcellus, N.Y.) on a cross. Weinberg emphatically put the ball in the goal from about six yards out, recording the eventual game-winner. The Cardinals made a late run, netting their second goal in the 82nd minute, thanks to
Andrew Sapienza (Byron-Bergen/Byron, N.Y.).
Brad Ervin (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira, N.Y.) recorded the helper. Junior goalkeeper Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) picked up the win for the Statesmen with two stops, while Durst finished with 12 saves for St. John Fisher.
