Women's Soccer Defeated In Overtime

Keeper Ashley Martin has recorded an impressive 22 saves in her last two starts.

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team came up just short, falling to host SUNY Brockport 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday.  The Cardinals tied the game in the 59th minute, but were unable to net the game-winner before the Golden Eagles ended the game in the 97th minute.

After jumping out to a 2-1 first half lead behind two goals from senior Dani Davis (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton), the Cardinals were out-shot 15-3 after halftime.  Keeper Ashley Martin (Marcellus/Marcellus) recorded 12 saves, including seven stops in the final 52 minutes of action.

In the second half, Smantha Stanley (East Aurora/East Aurora) brought the Cardinals back from a one-goal deficit, scoring her first goal of the season off of a short cross from Kiersten Drexler (Wayne/Ontario), but it wasn't enough as SUNY Brockport scored the game-winner seven minutes into the first overtime period.

Fisher (1-4-1) will return to action  at 4 p.m. next Wednesday to take on East-Avenue rival Nazareth College in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
