The St. John Fisher College volleyball team is now in second place in the Empire 8 Conference standings after a 3-1 finish in the Conference Crossover Tournament hosted by Fisher.
Over the course of the three-day, nine-team tournament, the host Cardinals posted a 3-0 win over Elmira College on Saturday, and added victories over Hartwick College(3-2) and Utica College (3-0) on Sunday to wrap up the tourney.
In Saturday’s 5 p.m. match, Fisher swept Elmira 3-0 (33-31, 30-15, 30-25).
Brittany Rowan (Rush-Henrietta/Rochester) recorded a career-high 16 kills for Fisher, while teammate
Mary Beth Dillon (Churchville-Chili/Rochester) tallied 29 digs to lead the Cardinals to their first Empire 8 Conference match victory of the season.
In Saturday night’s 3-2 (30-22, 20-30, 20-30, 30-21, 15-4) loss to Rochester Institute of Technology,
Jenna Waldron (Windsor/Windsor) recorded 35 digs, while
Hannah Cordes (Cazenovia/Cazenovia) led the Cardinals with 43 assists.
On the final day of action, Fisher rallied from a 2-0 deficit and defeated Hartwick 3-2 (20-30, 21-30, 30-21, 30-25, 15-12).
Waldron recorded a career-high 49 digs in the match, while
Alyssa Ziobrowski (Lewiston-Porter/Lewiston) added 16 kills for the Cardinals. Freshman
Sydney Kandefer (Nardin Academy/Alden) also added 12 kills and six blocks.
Sunday’s final match wrapped up a solid weekend for the Cardinals, who posted a 3-0 (31-29, 30-17, 30-19) win over the Utica College Pioneers. Cordes recorded 29 assists and three aces, while Waldron continued her strong play, adding 23 digs.
Fisher (4-10, 3-1 Empire 8) will return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to take on visiting Buffalo State College in a non-conference match.
