The St. John Fisher College golf team posted a school-record 280 on day two and currently leads the Empire 8 Conference Golf Championships hosted by Utica College at The Skenandoa Club in Clinton, NY on Sunday. The Cardinals, ranked 21st nationally, shaved 16 strokes off of Saturday’s score of 296 for a two-day total of 576.
Brandon Christo of Elmira College is the current individual leader after shooting a one-under 71 Saturday and came back with a three under 69 today for a combined two day total of 140.
Fisher All-American Scott Harris Jr. and
Nick Velasco each shot a two-day total of 143, good for a second place tie in the individual scoring. Harris fired a 67, while Velasco carded a a career-low 69. Tom Muto, Jr.(73-72) and
Bobby McCartney (73-72) both posted a two day total of 145 and currently sit in a tie for fourth place. M
Josh Maxwell of Nazareth College is in sixth place after carding a 78 on Saturday coupled with a 75 Sunday for a two day total of 153. As a team the Golden Flyers are three shots back of Elmira College with a combined 639. Matt Dalton shot a 158 and Andrew Jensen rounded out the top ten scorers with a 78 and an 81 combined for a score of 159.
Stevens Institute of Technology posted a combined 653 and is currently in fourth place in its first-ever Empire 8 Championships. Freshman Abhishek Saksena was the top scorer for the Ducks with a two-day total of 155, good for a seventh place finish.
After posting a 343 Saturday, Utica College came back with a 356 on Sunday for a combined 699 team score. Colin Kingston shot 83 both days for a 14th place finish and a two day total of 166.
Fisher has won the last four Empire 8 Conference Championships, including five of the last eight. The final two rounds of the tournament are on April 19 and 20, 2008 at Blue Heron Hills Country Club in Macedon, NY.
