The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team fell to visiting University of Rochester 3-1 on Wednesday. Matt Guinto (Manlius-Pebble/Syracuse) scored his first goal of the season, off of a headded pass from junior Robert Wick (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira) in the game's 64th minute, for Fisher's only goal.
Rochester got on the scoreboard in the 34th minute, as Steve Welles tipped the ball past the hands of keeper Robert Weigand (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga). Just five minutes later, Fisher scored an own goal off of a Rochester throw in to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 advantage. The Cardinals attempted to mount a comeback behind strong play from Carlos Martinez (Iroquois/Lancaster) and Guinto's goal, but failed to net the eqaulizer. Rochester's Cliff White added a late goal to cement the victory.
Fisher (2-2) will return to action this weekend in the Manhattanville tournament.
