Laurie Quackenbush netted a game-high six goals and
Lauren Glavin added four more as St. John Fisher defeated Hartwick 14-10 in Empire 8 Conference women’s lacrosse action, Friday at All-Weather Field at Wright Stadium.
Fisher, which improved to 5-2 on the year, took the lead for good with 11:03 left in the first half as
Trish Scudder posted her third tally of the year. That goal triggered five unanswered goals by the Cardinals.
Hartwick opened the scoring 57 seconds into the contest as Kelsey Campbell snagged a feed from Jenev Schilling and planted her 22nd goal of the year. It was the first of the senior’s five-goal afternoon.
Two minutes later, the Cardinals tied the score at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Quackenbush. Glavin posted back-to-back goals for Fisher at 25:41 and 23:58 respectively to give the Cardinals a 3-1 advantage. After the Hawks raced back to take a 4-3 lead on three consecutive goals by Campbell, Quackenbush answered at 17:10 and 12:30 as Fisher regained the lead at 5-4. Less than one minute later, Schilling Knotted the game at 5-5 with 11:26 left in the first before Scudder gave Fisher the lead for good 23 seconds later. Trailing by five late in the opening half, Julie Duffy (Westhampton, Mass.) beat the buzzer with her second goal of the year with 1.7 seconds left. The Cardinals took a 10-6 lead into intermission.
Hartwick chopped the deficit to 10-8 in the early stages of the second half as Katie Thorpe netted her third and Jamie Boulton tallied her 11th score of the year at 28:39 and 27:48. However, Fisher countered with two of its own – one by
Katie Glavin at 25:29 and another by
Haley Koperski at 24:54 to push the lead back up to four at 12-8.
Fisher will host Utica College on Saturday.
