The St. John Fisher College softball team came through with two six-inning wins over host Elmira College on Saturday. Fisher (13-9 overall, 4-2 Empire 8) defeated the Soaring Eagles 14-2 in the first game and 8-0 in the nightcap.
The Cardinals pounded out 28 hits over the two games, while pitchers
Amanda Shevchuk (Fayetteville-Manlius/Manlius) and
Jessica Maurer (Pembroke/Corfu) gave up just six hits on the day.
Shevchuk picked up the win in the second game, allowing just one hit and striking out five, while
Maurer scattered five hits and fanned three in the opener.
Fisher’s
Katie Botkins (Lakeshore/Derby),
Nicole Middleton (Hudson Falls/Fort Edwards) and
Kristi Bradley (Dansville/Dansville) each homered in Fisher’s first game.
Botkins also hit a solo home run in the second game and finished the day with four RBIs, while
Middleton went 5-for-7 (.714) with three RBIs on the day.
Bradley went 2-for-6 with two RBIs over the two-game span.
Freshman outfielder
Sarah Gates (Granby Memorial/Granby, CT) went 5-for-7 with four runs scored and three RBIs over the two games.
Kate Maurer (Rome Free Academy/Rome) batted .500 with two runs scored, while
Nicole Watkins (Canastota/Canastota) scored three runs and batted .429 (3-for-7).
Sara Dresser (Medina/Medina) finished the two games 2-for-5 with four RBIs.
Jonna Gerigitan (Winslow Township/Rosedale, NJ) doubled in the second game, while
Amanda Vandermark (Sandy Creek/Lacona),
Kim Barry (Charles O. Dickerson/Trumansburg) and
Laura Paul (Mt. St. Mary Academy/North Tonawanda) combined to score runs.
Katelyn Stubbendeck (Williamsville East/East Amherst) and freshmen
Laura Rojek (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) and
Kelly Hausler (Colonial/Niskayuna) each picked up their first hit of the season.
Stubbendeck hit a two-run triple,
Rojek singled and scored a run and
Hausler went 1-for-1 with a double.
Fisher will return to action on Tuesday at SUNY Fredonia.
