The St. John Fisher College men’s lacrosse team defeated visiting SUNY Oswego 12-6 on Wednesday at Fisher’s Growney Stadium. Oswego (2-1) led 2-1 after the first five minutes, but the Cardinals (2-1) scored five straight goals and eight of the next nine goals, to take a commanding 9-3 midway through the third quarter and never looked back. Freshman Chris Schmidt (West Genesee/Camillus) scored a career-high five goals to lead Fisher. He also added one assist.
Dave Malone (Penfield/Penfield) and
Matt Hargather (Fairport/Fairport) each finished with two goals, while
Jeff Price (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Lima),
Jason Brannigan (East Syracuse-Minoa/Minoa) and
Mike Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton) each finished with a goal and an assist.
Jason Cirulli (Webster Schroeder/Webster), Malone and
Dave Wood (Vestal/Vestal) also each picked up an assist.
Wood won 15-of-20 face-offs and scooped up a team-high 12 ground balls. Senior goalie
Brian Cummings (West Genesee/Syracuse) stopped 11 shots to earn his second win of the season.
Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will host SUNY Brockport.
