The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team defeated visiting Alfred University on Tuesday, rolling to an 81-41 victory.
It is the largest margin of victory for Fisher in a game since the 2005 Empire 8 Conference Championship finals, when the Cardinals improved to 27-0 with a 92-51 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology.
With tonight’s win, Fisher improves to 16-5 overall and 7-3 in the Empire 8. Alfred, who defeated Fisher 51-50 just two weeks ago, is now 7-13, 5-5.
Fisher, who led 27-17 at intermission, went on a 12-2 run in the opening 4:21 of the second half, and added on an 11-2 spurt, giving the Cardinals a 50-21 lead with 13 minutes to play.
Junior forward
Justin Beigel (Colerain/Cincinnati, OH) and freshman
Chris Baltz (Vestal/Vestal) each scored 15 points in the win. Beigel also added seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Dan McSweeney (Marcellus/Marcellus) also scored in double-figures, finishing with 11 points, four assists and two steals.
Dan Mueller (Waterloo/Waterloo) totaled eight points.
Isaiah Smalt (Campbell-Savona/Savona) finished with seven points and six rebounds, while
Matt Newman (Campbell-Savona/Campbell) chipped in with six points and three assists.
Fisher will return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday to take on host Ithaca College.
