The St. John Fisher College womens basketball team lost to visiting Utica College 65-55 on Friday. With the loss, the Cardinals failed to qualify for one of the four bids into the Empire 8 Conference Championship.
The Cardinals trailed by just one at the half, and led 37-36 with 14:31 to go, but Utica went on a 12-3 run over the next four minutes to take the lead for good.
Junior forward Allison Boehm led the Cardinals with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Ashley Dean tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.
Mary Francis added 12 points and led the Cardinals with a game-high seven assists, and also grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman center Mary Kate Comfort tallied six points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Cardinals now stand at 12-12, 6-7 in the Empire 8, and will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday to take on Hartwick College in the final game of the season.
