Fisher Wins Over Cazenovia

Isaiah Smalt finished with a career-high 14 rebounds in his second game back.
The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team improved to 5-4 on the year with an 87-60 win over visiting Cazenovia College on Sunday in the Courtyard-Penfield Classic.
 
Senior Justin Beigel (Colerain/Cincinnati, OH) led the Cardinals (5-4) with 21 points and 15 rebounds, marking his fourth double-double of the season.   The senior reached double digits in both columns just 13 minutes into the game and helped pace the Cardinals to a 47-24 lead at intermission.
 
Freshman Ozell Franklin (Rush-Henrietta/Henrietta) scored 16 points, while Chris Baltz (Vestal/Vestal) added 13 points.
 
Senior Isaiah Smalt (Campbell-Savona/Savona) finished with a career-high 14 rebounds and scored eight points.
 
Sophomore Michael Wopperer (St. Joseph’s/East Amherst) finished with a career-high eight points on 4-for-4 shooting and blocked a personal-best three shots. 
 
Freshmen Bryan Canty (Hornell/Hornell) and Will Cornett (Campbell-Savona/Campbell) also scored career-highs, finishing with seven and six points, respectively.
 
Sophomore point guard Matt Newman (Campbell-Savona/Campbell) chipped in with five assists, four points and three steals.
 
Fisher will return to action on Wednesday, January 9th at 8:15 p.m. and will host an opening round game in the JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Tournament.
