The fourth-seeded St. John Fisher College men's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Upstate Championship with a 1-0 win over No. 5 Ithaca College on Wednesday at Fisher's Growney Stadium. Sophomore Luke Lennox (The Harley School/Rochester) scored on a penalty kick for the game's only goal in the 63rd minute.
Sophomore goalie Adam Durst (Gates-Chili/Rochester) kept the Bombers at bay, making nine saves, including a point-blank shot with 10 minutes left in the first half. Junior defender Brad Ervin (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira) also blocked a shot with just under five minutes left to preserve the shutout.
With the win, Fisher improves to 12-7-1, while Ithaca finishes its season with a 10-6-1 mark. The Cardinals will now face No. 8 Rensselaer on Saturday in the semifinals finals at Union College. RPI defeated top-seeded SUNY Oneonta.
Union and Medaille will play in the other semifinal final.
