Men's Soccer Wins At Utica In E8 Semifinals

Luke Lennox and Dave Garabedian celebrate after Fisher's fourth goal of the game.

The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team erupted for four goals in the second half and defeated host Utica College 4-0 in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Championship on Friday.  With the win, Fisher, the No. 3 seed, will now play at top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology at 12 p.m. on Sunday with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA DIvision III Championship.

Sophomore Luke Lennox scored Fisher's final three goals to record his first collegiate hat-trick, giving the reigning Empire 8 Player of the Year 17 for the season.

Michael Rooney gave Fisher the lead for the good in the 52nd minute, blasting a shot from 15-yards out into the upper-left corner, following a pass from Brennan Canty.  Rooney's goal came moments after he stopped Utica from scoring, as the freshman blocked a shot on the mouth of the goal on a header from a corner kick.

Sophomore Adam Durst made seven saves to earn the shutout.   Dave Garabedian and Matt Guinto each picked up assists.
