The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team earned the No.3 seed in this weekend's Empire 8 Championship Tournament with a 2-1 overtime victory over visiting Alfred University on Saturday night.
Sophomore Luke Lennox (Harley/Rochester) ended the game in the 104th minute after versatile defender Carlos Martinez (Iroquois/Lancaster), who moved up to forward for the overtime period, was taken down in the penalty box. Lennox drilled a shot of the keeper's hands for his 14th goal of the season.
Michael Rooney (McQuaid/Pittsford) gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead when he scored his fourth goal of the season in the 32nd minute, off of a Brad Ervin (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira) headed pass.
Fisher defender's Ervin, Martinez, Anthony Hinds-Fritz (Kenmore East/Cheektowaga), and freshman Chris Keating (Canisius/Amherst) made easy work for goalie Adam Durst (Gates Chili/Rochester), who recorded two saves in the contest.
The Cardinals (10-6-1, 4-2-1 Empire 8) will return to action on Friday to take on No.2 seed Utica College in the Empire 8 Conference Championship
