Women's Basketball Rallies To Beat R.I.T.

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team overcame an 11-point second-half deficit and defeated host R.I.T. 58-56 on Friday night.

The Cardinals (6-3, 1-0 E8) trailed by 11 after a three-point-play by the Tigers on the opening possession of the second half, but the Cardinals responded with a 26-7 run over the next 13 minutes to take the lead for good.

R.I.T. trimmed Fisher's lead down to two points with two minutes left, and despite Fisher missing the front end of one-and-one free throws on three straight trips to the charity stripe, the Tigers never regained the lead.

The game also marked the return of head coach Phil Kahler.  Kahler, who suffered a heart attack in October, missed Fisher's first eight games.  He is in his 33rd year as the Cardinals head coach and has established Fisher as the all-time winningest program in NCAA Division III history with 737 wins and just 148 losses.

Allison Boehm scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half, including three 3-pointers. She also added eight boards and five assists

Ashley Dean totaled 11 of her team-high 19 points in the first half, while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out a career-high six assists.

Mary Francis knocked down two 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 13 points and three steals.
