The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games, as the Cardinals defeated host Hobart College 64-43 on Tuesday night.
Fisher led by just three points at intermission, but used an 8-0 run early in the second half to push the lead into double-digits. Hobart made it a nine-point game at 44-35 with 8:46 left, but the Cardinals pulled away, thanks to a 13-1 spurt over the next four minutes.
Senior
Dan Mueller (Waterloo/Waterloo) led the Cardinals with 15 points on five 3-pointers. He now has 15 3-pointers on just 24 attempts (62.5%) in his last three games.
Junior
Justin Beigel (Colerain/Cincinnati, OH) scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half, while
Dan McSweeney (Marcellus/Marcellus) finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, four blocked shots and four steals.
Freshman
Matt Newman (Campbell-Savona/Campbell) totaled six points and three assists, while sophomore
Tim Coyne (Albert Magnus/Stony Point) chipped in with a team-high five assists and four points.
Junior
Isaiah Smalt (Campbell-Savona/Savona) added four points, two blocked shots and two steals. Senior
Adrian Fenyn (Newark/Newark) also scored four points, while
Mike McKeever (Indian River/Philadelphia) made his fourth 3-pointer of the year.
Freshman Kyle Stevens (Saratoga Catholic/Saratoga Springs) also scored in the win.
Fisher (7-1) will return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday at Rochester Institute of Technology in the Empire 8 Conference season-opener for both teams. The Cardinals have won the Empire 8 Conference each of the last four years.
