The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team won its Empire 8 Conference season-opener on Sunday, as the Cardinals defeated visiting Elmira College 5-0.
Fisher's Jason Tartick (Williamsville East/Williamsville), Brian Bartosik (Canisius/Buffalo) and Anthony D'Angelo (McQuaid Jesuit/Webster) each scored first-half goals, while Robert Wick (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira) and Rick Kharas (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse) scored in the final 15 minutes.
Dominic Ciprioni (Bethlehem/Glenmont) and Anthony Valle (Greece Athena/Rochester) each picked up an assist.
Fisher's Scott Williams (Corning East/Corning) and Adam Durst (Gates-Chili/Rochester) each played a half and combined for the shutout.
Fisher (1-6 overall, 1-0 Empire 8) will return to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Alfred University.
