Fisher led 27-6 midway through the second half, but Brockport scored the next two touchdowns and nearly tied the game, driving inside the Fisher 10-yard line in the final moments.
With four seconds left from the Fisher 9-yard line, Brockport’s quarterback completed a screen pass, but the Fisher defense forced the receiver out of bounds just inside the 5-yard line as time expired.
Fisher scored passing touchdowns on its first three possessions of the game and led 20-6 at intermission.
Rob Kramer (Oneida/Oneida) completed 18-for-29 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns on the day.
Fisher took its first drive 62 yards on 10 plays and grabbed the lead for good as Sean Nowicki (Alden/Alden) recovered a fumble in the endzone after wide receiver Corey Jackson (Iroquois/East Aurora) lost the ball at the Brockport 1-yard line. The Cardinals went 64 yards on 10 plays on its next drive with Jackson scoring on an eight-yard pass with 2:50 left in the first quarter.
After a Brockport touchdown, Nowicki scored his second touchdown of the day on a 49-yard strike midway through the second quarter.
Fisher pushed its lead to 21 points on the opening drive of the second half. Mark Robinson (Bath-Haverling/Bath) scored on a four-yard run, less than three minutes into the third quarter.
Robinson finished the game with 104 yards on 24 carries, marking the 18th time in his career the senior has gone for over 100-yards in a game. He also caught three passes for 35 yards. For his career, Robinson now has 3,995 career yards and needs just five to become the second player in Fisher history to rush for over 4,000 yards and 23 more yards to become the program’s all-time leader.
Jackson finished the game with six receptions for 82 yards (both career-highs), while Nowicki caught three passes for 72 yards. James Reile (Herkimer/Herkimer) rushed for 27 yards on nine carries. He also caught two passes for 13 yards and totaled 57 yards on two kick-off returns.
Scott Miranto (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda) led Fisher, who entered the game 10th in Division III in scoring defense, allowing just 7.2 points per game, with 13 tackles and a forced fumble, while Steve Flagler (Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/Sherrill) and Gene Lang (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) each added nine tackles.
Turell Ahmed (St. Joseph’s/Buffalo) finished with a career-high six tackles and a forced fumble, while Bill Fox (Caledonia-Mumford/Caledonia) tallied six tackles and two pass break-ups.
Matt Driscoll (Lakeshore/Angola) also made six stops and recovered a fumble.
Fisher will try to set the College-record for victories to start a season at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Norwich University.
