St. John Fisher College’s Bob Simms is now in his seventh season as the program’s head golf coach.

Under the tutelage of Simms, already a four-time Empire 8 Conference Coach of the Year,Fisher has emerged not only a regional powerhouse, but a serious contender on the national level.

Simms, who was named as the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year last spring, guided the Cardinals  to a top 20 finish in their second straight NCAA Division III Championship Tournament appearance.  Fisher has also won the Empire 8 title five times in the last six years and has finished first at the ECAC Upstate Championship each of the last three years.

Simms, a LeRoy native and Batavia Notre Dame graduate, started his coaching career at Fisher

in 1988 as the head baseball coach for the College.  He coached the team until 2000 when he

took over  as the head coach for the school’s golf team – a position he has held ever since.

The switch from baseball coach to golf coach marked a return to his roots, as Simms

was a member  of the College’s golf team as a student from 1971-1974.

Simms graduated from Fisher with a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting.
