Kelly Greapentrog enters her 18th season as head coach of the St. John Fisher University women’s volleyball team in 2026. She also serves as the athletic department’s Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).
Greapentrog has had one of the most consistent Division III programs in the region and beyond since beginning her second stint leading the Cardinals in 2012. Fisher has won well over 200 matches with six Empire 8 Conference titles and five appearances in the NCAA DIII Women’s Volleyball Tournament in that span. The Cardinals have finished with a winning record in each of the last nine seasons.
In all, Greapentrog has posted a 301-217 (.581) overall record with eight 20-plus win seasons at Fisher. The five-time Empire 8 Coach of the Year and 2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Region III Coach of the Year has a dominant 83-9 (.902) mark against conference teams, including 14-3 in E8 postseason play, since 2017. The Cardinals reeled off 45 consecutive victories against Empire 8 opponents from 2019 until the conference tournament in 2023.
Fisher has had no shortage of memorable seasons with Greapentrog at the helm, but none compare to the 2025 campaign. During the magical ride, the Cardinals set program single-season records for wins (30-2) and three-set sweeps (25) during the rally scoring era, reached 30 wins for the first time since 1983, earned a spot in the AVCA Top-25 for the first time ever and won an NCAA Tournament match for the first time in 27 years, sweeping Wentworth in the first round. All 30 of the Cardinals’ victories came consecutively, the longest winning streak in program history and the second-longest by a team during the 2025 season at all three NCAA levels entering the second round of the NCAA DIII Tournament.
Several of the program’s best players have developed at Fisher under Greapentrog, who has coached seven players who’ve combined to earn 10 AVCA All-America honors. That list includes Alea Steigerwald (3x), Kaylene Noble (2x), Sydney French, Ana Gutman, Lydia Fraser, Reilly Morrow and Kalyna Dannenberg. Steigerwald, who played for Fisher from 2018-21, ranks second in program history in kills (1,436) and service aces (185).
Dannenberg, Noble and Morrow became the first trio of Cardinals to be named All-Americans in the same season in 2025. Additionally, Dannenberg became the first player in Fisher history to claim a major AVCA award when the organization named her the 2025 Region III Rookie of the Year.
The Cardinals have also had seven Empire 8 Rookie of the Year winners, seven Empire 8 Player of the Year winners (Steigerwald 4x), three Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year winners, more than 50 All-E8 selections and nearly two-dozen AVCA All-Region honorees under Greapentrog. The Cardinals had a program-record five AVCA All-Region honorees in 2025, with Dannenberg, Noble and Morrow garnering first-team spots.
After two seasons as an assistant, Greapentrog first served as Fisher’s head coach from 2007-09 before spending the next two seasons leading SUNY Brockport’s program. She began her collegiate coaching career at Erie Community College, where she led the Kats to the NJCAA Region III Championship Tournament in her first of three seasons as the team’s head coach.
The AVCA in 2008 named Greapentrog to its Thirty-Under-30 list, which annually honors the nation’s top 30 volleyball coaches under age 30 at any level of organized volleyball.
A 2002 graduate of Buffalo State, Greapentrog played four years of Division III volleyball. She served as a team captain as the Bengals went 27-13 over her final collegiate season.
