Kaili Saffran (Webster/Webster-Thomas) of the St. John Fisher College women’s tennis team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week after leading the Cardinals to a pair of wins during the week that ended October 6, 2019.
Saffran’s efforts afforded Fisher a win over Nazareth College for the first time in nearly two decades on Wednesday as the senior posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at first singles to set the tone.
Saffran, who was honored by her team on Saturday as part of senior day, would go on to claim a point in first singles against the Alfred University Saxons before partnering up with Cassidy Bell for another point at first doubles.
Saffran and the rest of the women’s tennis team, who have already clinched a spot in the upcoming Empire 8 Championship and can finish no lower than the second overall seed, are back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday at The Sage Colleges. Should Fisher win that match, the Cardinals will win the Empire 8 Regular Season title for the first time in their history.
