St. John Fisher College has named #Jon Gibbs# of the baseball team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 11, 2010.
In a 5-0 week for the Cardinals, Gibbs went 6-for-17 while collecting 12 RBI, scoring four times and having five extra-base hits.
Fisher traveled to the University of Rochester on Wednesday for its first game of the week, which it won 8-7. Although Gibbs was only 1-for-5 in the game, the one hit was a two-run home run which proved to be a difference maker for the Cardinals.
The weekend saw Fisher host a four-game series with the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks in which Gibbs had at least one hit and one RBI in each of the games.
In the last game, Gibbs contributed his best performance of the week with two home runs, including a grand slam, driving in a total of five runs in a 12-3 victory.
For the week Gibbs earned a batting average of .353 with an astounding 1.000 slugging percentage.
Currently Gibbs possesses an eight-game hit streak with 16 RBI and three home runs in the span. For the season, the senior leads Fisher in doubles (9), home runs (4) and RBI (29) while being tied for second in hits (27). Gibbs is also second on the team in slugging percentage (.658), third in on-base percentage (.462) and fifth in batting average (.355).
The Cardinals will return to action on Wednesday at 1 p.m. when they host the Oneonta Red Dragons in a doubleheader at Dugan Yard.
