St. John Fisher University Athletics

Alea Steigerwald of the St. John Fisher College women’s volleyball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for her effort this past weekend at the Kam Briggs Memorial Tournament hosted by Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. 
 
The sophomore nailed down 72 kills over the course of four matches for the Cardinals including a program-record 33 against Capital. Steigerwald held the previous record at 32 but surpassed it in the five-set match where Fisher ultimately came up short in. 
 
Through the first weekend of play, the Penfield native currently leads the Empire 8 in kills per set (4.24) and fifth in total digs (61). She also ranks in the top 10 in the conference in hitting percentage. The outside hitter’s performance led her to be named to the All-Tournament Team.
