Alea Steigerwald (Penfield/Penfield) of the St. John Fisher College women’s volleyball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week that ended October 28, 2018.
Steigerwald rewrote the Fisher record book versus RIT as she broke the program record for kills in a single season, which was 460 total kills and was previously held since 1998 by Katy Stratton. The Penfield native was also the Cardinal's representative on the 2018 New York State Regional Challenge All-Tournament Team for her performances over the weekend.
The freshman finished the four-match week with 64 kills, 31 digs, seven service aces, and five blocks. Steigerwald racked up 22 kills in the Cardinals straight victory over Buffalo State, while also posting a .514 hitting percentage on only 37 attempts.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when they travel to Hoboken, N.J. to compete for an Empire 8 Conference Championship, starting with the number two seeded Nazareth College in the second of two semi-final matches.
