Tyler English (Lockport, N.Y./St. Mary’s) of the St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week after joining an elite club during the week that ended January 28, 2018.
English became just the 23rd player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points on Tuesday after hitting a free throw at the 2:08 mark of the first half as the Cardinals cruised past Houghton, 88-52. The win snapped a four-game skid for the Cardinals and was the beginning of their current three-game winning streak.
For the week, English averaged nearly 10 points per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds as Fisher also defeated Sage and Utica over the weekend.
To date, the Lockport native has amassed 1,021 points, which moved him ahead of Hall-of-Famer Matt Comerford for 22nd place on Fisher’s all-time scoring list.
English and the rest of the men’s basketball team will shoot for its fourth straight win at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when they host Stevens Institute of technology in an Empire 8 bout inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court.
