Keegan Ryan of the men’s basketball team has been named the St. John Fisher College Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 19th, 2017.
Ryan had an impressive week as he helped the Cardinals go 3-0 and earn, not only the Empire 8 regular season title, but also the right to host the conference tournament coming up this weekend.
On Wednesday, Ryan got the ball rolling with a career performance in a win over Elmira College. The senior went 11-14 from the field and finished with a career-high 33 points. In the victory over Stevens on Friday, Ryan’s offense continued to impress as the forward dropped a 28 spot. The Plattsburgh, N.Y. then concluded the weekend with a double-double (his 41st in a Fisher uniform), registering 21 points while gathering 10 boards.
Ryan also made his way into the Fisher record books on Saturday, as he now sits on top of the list for career rebounds. He now has amassed a total of 962 in his career, eclipsing the 23 year old record of 956 that current men’s basketball assistant, and Hall-of-Famer, Chris Sullivan held.
Keegan Ryan and the rest of the Cardinals will now host the conference tournament this weekend, with the No. 1 Cardinals tipping off against fourth-seeded Nazareth at 6 p.m. on Friday. The winner of that will take on the victor of the Stevens/Utica game in the championship the following day.
