St. John Fisher College’s Lindsey Thayer of the softball team has been selected as the College’s Female Athlete of Week for the week ending March 6th, 2016.
Thayer had a dominant week pitching for the Cardinals as she went a perfect 5-0 in five complete games pitched in Clermont, Florida, helping Fisher begin its season 9-1 last week. The sophomore did not allow a single earned run through the five games and struck out a total of 74 batters, never having less than 11 strikeouts in a contest. She also allowed only four runs and 19 hits through the 35 innings of work.
Her week started with a decisive 2-1 victory over John Carroll University on Monday when she led the Cardinals to victory by striking out 14 batters and only allowed one run. Thayer followed that up on Tuesday with perhaps her best performance of the week, a 19 strikeout effort in a 1-0 win over Johnson & Wales in which she allowed only two hits in the contest. Later in the week, the Empire 8 Conference Pitcher of the Week went on to pitch three more full games including a 2-0 win over Augustana, a 9-3 triumph over Ohio Northern, and a 2-0 victory against Aurora.
The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday, March 19th as they head to Bradford, PA to take on the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
