St. John Fisher College’s Emily Markarian of the field hockey team has been selected as the College’s Female Athlete of Week for the week ending September 27th, 2015.
Markarian, also this week’s winner of Empire 8 Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, led her team to two victories after scoring both game-winning overtime goals.
The first was on the road at Houghton College on Wednesday in a 3-2 victory over the Highlanders on an unassisted shot just eight minutes into overtime.
On Saturday, the sophomore sealed the 2-1 win over SUNY Geneseo with yet another unassisted overtime goal. The win against Geneseo marked the first victory in program history against the Knights.
For the season, Markarian leads the Empire 8 standings in overall points (18) and total goals (8).
Fisher (6-2) returns to action this week with two home games on Wednesday when it takes on the University of Rochester, and Saturday against Utica College.
The Utica game will be a rematch between the 2013 and 2014 Empire 8 conference finalists.
