St. John Fisher University Athletics

Mike Donitzen (Liverpool/Liverpool) of the nationally-ranked football team has been selected as the St. John Fisher College Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 16, 2014.

The senior carried No. 21 Fisher’s defense, breaking up two plays and tallying four solo tackles and one interception for 18 yards in the Cardinals’ 34-12 victory to host Alfred University on Saturday. Donitzen also recorded his first career forced fumble.

With the win, Fisher share the Empire 8 Championship with Ithaca College, but the Bombers earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships due to their head-to-head win over Fisher last weekend. It was the Cardinals’ first win at Alfred in four tries.

The Fisher defense held the Saxons to just 276 total yards on offense and created four turnovers. The Cardinals close out the regular season with an 8-2 overall record and 6-2 in conference play.  

Fisher moves onto the postseason, hosting Western Connecticut State at 12 p.m. Saturday for the ECAC Bowl Championship.
