St. John Fisher College’s Sammy Van Gee (Marion/Marion) of the women’s cross country team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 2, 2014.

The sophomore led Fisher to its best finish at the Empire 8 Championship on Saturday in the history of the four-year program.

Van Gee placed 14th overall and completed the course in 18:38.4. Her efforts earned her a place on the All-Conference Second Team. In each of their eight races this season, Van Gee has finished first for the Cardinals.

Despite missing three of its top-eight runners due to injuries, Fisher came in fourth place with 121 points behind champion Ithaca College, Stevens Institute of Technology and Nazareth College.

Fisher takes a week off before competing in the NCAA Regional Championship on November 15 at Genesee Valley Park.
