Nicole Hart (West Genesee/Syracuse), of the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team has been named Fisher’s Female Athlete of the Week for action concluding on May 4, 2014.
Hart picked up two more wins over the weekend to improve to 6-0 on the season after leading the No. 15 Cardinals to their third consecutive Empire 8 title with wins coming against Nazareth College and top-seeded Ithaca College.
The Syracuse native was nothing short of remarkable in the conference tournament, combining to make 23 saves in the two-game span including a career-high 12 stops against the Golden Flyers. The sophomore goalie followed up that performance with an 11-save outing as Fisher dispatched of nationally-ranked Ithaca College on Sunday to advance to its third straight NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship and fifth in its last eight seasons. Hart allowed only eight goals over the weekend, while holding the Bombers, one of the nation’s top offenses, to only three goals leading her to be named the tournament’s Most Value Player.
Hart currently leads the Empire 8 in goals against average, allowing a miniscule 5.48 goals per contest.
The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday when they visit nationally-ranked York College in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championships.
